1995 Hamer Custom 8 String Bass

Sunburst, We have some history with Hamer. Willie worked at the Sound Post store in Chicago that ordered about 2 Custom Hamers a month over a 3-4 year period as well as standard models. Our Luthier Steve worked at Hamer doing custom work back then too.

This one has a one piece Honduran Mahogany body with two distinctive large check inlays at the 3rd and 12th fret. It also has the California jack on the end which makes it easy to string through your guitar strap so you don’t step on it and pull it out. Has the original EMG pickups with master volume, active treble and bass controls and a blend control/pickup selector. The electronics are very useful as the eight string has a more complex piano like tone that fills out the band. It’s perfect for a three piece band and EMG’s prevent a singing bass player from getting shocked by a microphone.

A great bass that has a unique V 12 string headstock and deep cutaways to access every fret. It’s all original with no breaks just some scratches on the top and back.

WE’ll never see the likes of Hamer again. Now a shadow of its former bad ass glory as they focus on inexpensive imports. It’s sad really. The old Hamers of the Chicago era are mostly custom made high end tools of rock. Comes with the original hard case.
