1990 Pierre Anastasio Gypsy Style Guitar

Oval-soundhole gypsy jazz guitar. EX-/VG++ One of the last of the first-generation Franco-Romani gypsy jazz luthiers (Maccaferri, Favino are others that come to mind), starting back in 1955. Pierre Anastasio passed in away in 2007 at 70 years of age. This is not a Pacific Rim copy but a handmade French oval hole classic.

Laminated Brazilian rosewood back and and sides, looks to be a cedar neck with an ebony fingerboard. A pickup has been installed with a jack through through the tail block, as would be normal for a guitar of this type, and the element itself is mounted in the bridge with a small hole through the top for the leads. There are two repaired cracks on either side of the fingerboard. Solid spruce top, gently arched (as is the back), gold-plated tuners appear original, rosewood headstock overlay with logo.
The tone is fantastic with penetration, volume, and a rich bloom to the notes.  Django Reinhardt* fans, this is best guitar of this style we’ve seen in a decade…or more. A few dings as you might expect on a 28 year-old guitar. A nice but newer hard case is included. These are getting hard to find in the USA.

*Did you know that Django Reinhardt had his fourth and fifth fingers permanently damaged in a fire by accidentally tipping over a candle in his caravan that set fire to some celluloid flowers his new wife had just made for him? The caravan went up in flames. Doctors told him he would lose his leg and fingers – instead, he walked out of the hospital with a cane and became the best-known guitar player in the world, with only two functional fingers.
