1949 Martin D-28
$18,950.00In stock
Natural, VG++, with gorgeous old bookmatched Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. The previous owner had the guitar fixed up for sale for the next owner. An act of love for he has owned the guitar since 1960 while at Stanford University during the folk boom of the early sixties. The owner told us he drove around with Jerry Garcia.
This has had a neck reset, bridge reglue and the first seven frets replaced. There is one top crack and two cracks all repaired. It had two clear pickguards removed (again for you) but it is hard to tell. Has no headstock issues, no overspray and never had a strap button added.
Martin made under 5000 guitars in 1949 at a time when Brazilian Rosewood was fairly common and they could be picky. Just look at the grain on the back with deep dark coffee color streaks. 1949 was a time period when Bing Crosby, Doris Day and Perry Como ruled. But Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams and Gene Autry were all heros and rebels. Hank played a D-28.
This is an honor to have this as this consignor is a dear friend of Willie who has known him for 20 years and shares Willie’s love of birds. It’s rare to present to you a guitar that has been owned and cherished by the same owner for 65 years.
A really great investment in tone and rare woods. Comes with the original hard case. Consigned.
