1934 Gibson L-4 Round Hole Archtop
$3,750.00In stock
Sunburst, beautiful finish, with a recent neck reset for excellent playability. These were top of the line from 1912 until the L-5 in 1922. The round sound hole configuration was only around for a short window.
Carved Solid Spruce top, carved maple back, 16” wide with a bound neck, diamond headstock inlay, 7 layers of sound hole inlay. Trapeze tailpiece, ebony bridge, Brazilian fingerboard, refretted (you’re welcome). Has a very comfy medium V neck with a 1 3/4” nut width. Luxurious.
The tone is rather unique with the neck reset the geometry of the guitar is great. Has low action, yet is loud with a remarkably woody tone that barks yet sustains. It appears all stock but the pickguard might be a very high quality reproduction. There is a repaired seam crack on back. What looks like a heel crack is actually a seam. It is built that way at the factory. We conferred with David one of our most experienced luthiers who did the neck reset so he had his nose in it. It’s a two piece heel that’s not a crack. There is wear on the back of the neck since it was likely very hard to put down. The maple sides have cool flame.
This has great vibe and tone. Unlike most other guitar you’ve played unless you own a hand carved round hole guitar with 100 year old old growth spruce. Comes with an older hard case that is likely from the 50’s.
