1965 Gibson SG Standard
$25,000.00Out of stock
Cherry, unbroken all original, and in excellent condition. Big neck with early 1 11/16” nut and nickel hardware. Now if you ask us these early ’65 Gibson SG’s might be the pinnacle of the model. Why? Because the 15-degree headstock pitch is less likely to break than the earlier 17-degree. Ponder that.
This gorgeous piece of Musical Industrial Design is pure sculpture. Driven by competition with Fender’s Stratocaster it was a space age sculpture with easy access double cutaways. The Les Paul Special had rather uninspired cutaways but was priced the same as the Strat. The SG was much more sensual and usually came with a tremolo and was also priced near the Stratocaster.
This one was never played in anger but is lightly faded and has light finish checking and edge wear. There are a few dings and scratches. It has the original tuners, nut, knobs, bridge and even the strap buttons. It has nice big neck with a pretty Brazilian fretboard. The frets still have plenty of life. The Patent Sticker pickups are original and have that articulate tone that early 60’s SG’s are known for. Every note of the chord can be heard, even when distorted. The effortless big neck has access to every fret, a big selling point in 60’s Gibson literature.
This has the perfect balance of being very clean with no breaks yet has a few dings to let you breathe easy while you wail at the gig.
