Electric Solid Body1972 Gibson Les Paul '58 Standard Limited

Dark Cherry Sunburst, a rather rare and very cool guitar for Gibson. By ’72 the bodies were sandwiched pieces of wood and the headstocks were huge. The better to see my logo with my dear. Yet the old guys at Gibson were starting to hear of big money paid for vintage so they called this guitar a ’58 Standard. Funny as the ’58 Standard had humbuckers and not P-90’s. Rare features: One piece large mahogany neck, one piece mahogany body with rather dished top, transitional neck tenon, narrow cutaway binding like 50’s guitars. The Standard ’58 was a wrap around, the ’58 Limited has the tune-a-matic and stop bar set up.

With the unusual features it is highly unlikely the stoic Gibson retooled for these. The argument is they were using up 15 year old unused wood parts (neck blank and bodies) from the 50’s. With under 1100 made most are goldtops. This is a really cool example.

Once had changed tuners, originals back on. Also pro refret but otherwise original with early ’72 pots and electronics. A great neck, great tone and very rare features. Old wood made before CNC machines and kiln dried wood. A future classic. $7500 On Hold
